SAINT GUILHEM LE DESERT: one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France
A spiritual stopover on the Ways of Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle, the medieval city of Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert is an essential stopover in the Hérault Valley. Labeled Plus Beaux Villages de France, it stretches its
alleys along the Val de Gellone, following the Verdus stream.
The village is the perfect setting for the Abbey of Gellone, a true gem of the early Languedoc Roman art.
MONTPEYROUX: the Castellas, sentinel of time
In the heart of a renowned vineyard, it benefits from a rich heritage including the "Castellas", an exceptional fortified complex from the 13th century which still seems to watch over the valley today. PUECHABON: a medieval “circulade” in the heart of the garrigue
Puéchabon is a circular village grouped together in the 11th century around a Fort, today
faded away. The old Saint-Pierre castral church is the oldest vestige.
Puéchabon is also a garrigue village where the holm oak and the olive tree are king. Two kilometers from the village, along a path hides the Romanesque chapel of Saint-Sylvestre des Brousses.
The site is ideal for a picnic.
SAINT JEAN DE FOS: a village of potters with glazed reflections
Saint-Jean-de-Fos developed in the 11th century with the construction of the Devil's Bridge. Its ceramic production dates back to the 15th century and reached its peak in the 19th century. Even today, many workshops and the Argileum museum perpetuate this
secular know-how. Each year in August, one of the oldest and
important potters' markets.
ANIANE: The city of Saint Benedict
Benoît d´Aniane, reformer of the Benedictine order, founded the Abbey of Saint-Sauveur in 782.
The abbey thrives and more than 300 monks trained in Aniane
swarming throughout the empire to spread Benedictine rule.
Destroyed during the wars of religion, hosting in turn a spinning mill, a prison or
still a public institution of supervised education, the Abbey of Aniane is now the subject of an ambitious restoration program. It remains the heart of a charming medieval village, known and recognized for its exceptional vineyards!
ARGELLIERS: "The Green Paradise"
In the heart of vast areas of scrubland, occupied since prehistoric times, the village is famous today thanks to the discovery of the Roc de Pampelune oppidum dating from the 5th and 6th centuries.
