Temporary exhibition of a capital from Gellone Abbey, found at Château de Jonquières.
What remains of the cloister of Gellone Abbey in Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert, one of the most beautiful Romanesque abbeys of its time? Mutilated in the 16th century, sold and dispersed in the 19th century, its sculpted decorations are now on display in Montpellier and New York.
Some are still on display in the abbey museum, while others adorn facades and fountains throughout the region.
How many are lost forever? So when a stray marquee resurfaces, it's quite a story!
